Earth Day: For the Planet we live on

Image
A mother tells her child to keep the house clean while she is away. The kid agrees. But when the mother steps on the road, she checks her handbag and throws unwanted papers and dirt on the street. Why? To keep her bag and her house clean. But what about the street she's walking on? Doesn't it deserve cleanliness? They say Save Water. Its scarce. How many of us do? They say Plant Trees. They'll help us breath. How many of us actually plant trees? They say Avoid Plastic Bags. But its one of our daily necessities, so we ignore. Such ignorance towards most of the good things has landed us here. Today it has become a priority to look after nature. Let's not ignore our nature and our earth. We have just one. Earth day is celebrated on 22nd April. But is just 22nd April the day when we should care about or spread the awareness? No! It has to be 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A small step taken by us and simple good habits will lead us to a better future. Here are few ...

How to save paper?

Image
Source: rlandkabaena.blogspot.com   Did you know that 17 trees make 1 ton of paper? So saving paper ultimately helps in saving trees. But do we really do our bit to save the green creatures in our environment? It would be easier by simply following 2 steps: Recycling and Using paper only if required. Recycling is a small way for us to show to our world and community that we care. Recycling helps us give back to nature what we take from it. Did you know that up to 80% of waste generated in your workplace is recyclable paper? If not disposed correctly this paper is wasted and cannot be recycled. Proper segregation is the answer to ensuring this does not happen. Ensure when you dispose waste paper you dispose it in the correct manner. This not only helps in keeping your environment clean and tidy but also reduces your carbon footprint, decreases pollution and also decreases the load on landfills. Landfills are an increasingly pressing problem. Less and less land is availab...

International World Water Day - How to Save Water?

Image
The festival of Holi is coming up, so has International World Water Day arrived. How are these days related? We know well… 22 March of every year is celebrated as International World Water Day. This day focuses on the importance and management of freshwater resources. Three fourth of the earth consists of water of which only 1% is available for use. It is this fresh water that is utilized to drink, wash, irrigate farms etc and hence it is very important for our survival. However, the fresh water level has begun to drop across various countries. While the global population increased by about four times between 1900 and 2000, the global water usage saw a six fold increase.  Thus water conservation is necessary to safeguard this fresh water from drying up completely. Less water will mean less food. This will lead not only to people dying of water-borne diseases, but also to people dying from starvation and malnutrition. Induction Cooker or raised cap of subsidised LPG cylinder? Whats your choice?

Image
With the cap of 6 subsidised LPG price cylinders, people started switching towards to electric induction cooker. Now the cap has raised to 9, and we think now induction cooker is of no use. With a family of four, it was obvious that 6 cylinders is too less. And spending Rs. 900 for the 7th one is unaffordable for a middle class family. An induction cooker is a better option cost-wise. It costs between Rs. 2000 and 5000 depending on brands like Prestige, Philips, Morphy Richards etc. Most importantly an induction cooker consumes less electricity. I have experienced it for myself. I had bought an induction cooker 3 months back and our electricity bill doesn't show much difference in the numbers. Also, being strictly against energy wastage, I would prefer that energy doesn't get wasted while cooking too. In a cooking gas, the flame is not totally used to heat the vessel. Whereas in an induction cooker, this is not the case. The heat gets transferred to the vessel totally,...
